In a worldwide supply chain study by GEODIS, it is apparent that most companies just aren\u2019t doing \u2018supply chain visibility\u2019 well.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not to say they don\u2019t want to. Other things beyond their control get in the way, such as transportation costs, shipping and a number of disruptions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Transportation:<\/strong> The market for transportation management systems will hit $4.8 billion by 2025. In addition, transportation and logistics activities currently account for 12% of the global GDP. And, due to dramatic fuel regulation changes, the total impact to consumer wallets in 2020 could be around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visualcapitalist.com\/imo-2020-the-big-shipping-shake-up\/\" class=\"broken_link\">US $240 billion<\/a>!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Shipping:<\/strong> Shipping costs are now well above <a href=\"https:\/\/financesonline.com\/supply-chain-statistics\/#link4\">$21.7 billion<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Disruptions: <\/strong>Supply chain disruptions can cause significant <a href=\"https:\/\/financesonline.com\/supply-chain-statistics\/#link9\">negative losses<\/a> in terms of finances (62%), logistics (54%) and reputation (54%). The biggest supply chain disruptions, on top of the Coronavirus, are: mergers and acquisitions (66%), extreme weather (41%), factory fire (37%) and business sale (33%).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>I Digress<\/h3>\n<p>So NO, those were not the 6 statistics I wanted to share. Guess you got some bonus ones!<\/p>\n<p>The statistics I found interesting were around the <strong>extent of supply chain visibility of organizations <\/strong>(a special high-five to <a href=\"https:\/\/financesonline.com\/supply-chain-statistics\/\">FinancesOnline<\/a> for furnishing these data):<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"69% of companies don\u2019t have complete visibility of their supply chains\" class=\"broken_link\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-26708\" src=\"https:\/\/blueridgeglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/supply-chain-visibility.png\" alt=\"financesonline-supply-chain-visibility\" width=\"1000\" height=\"420\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blueridgeglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/supply-chain-visibility.png 2000w, https:\/\/blueridgeglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/supply-chain-visibility-300x126.png 300w, https:\/\/blueridgeglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/supply-chain-visibility-1024x430.png 1024w, https:\/\/blueridgeglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/supply-chain-visibility-768x323.png 768w, https:\/\/blueridgeglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/supply-chain-visibility-1536x645.png 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Only <a href=\"https:\/\/financesonline.com\/supply-chain-statistics\/#link8\">22%<\/a> of companies have a proactive supply chain network<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/financesonline.com\/supply-chain-statistics\/#link1\">62%<\/a> of companies have limited visibility of their supply chain and 15% only has visibility on production<\/li>\n<li>Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/financesonline.com\/supply-chain-statistics\/#link1\">6%<\/a> report full visibility and 17% say they have extended supply chain visibility<\/li>\n<li>Supply chain visibility is among the <a href=\"https:\/\/financesonline.com\/supply-chain-statistics\/#link1\">top strategic priorities<\/a> of companies worldwide<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/financesonline.com\/supply-chain-statistics\/#link1\">most common KPIs<\/a> used for supply chain monitoring include daily performance (40%), cost reduction (35%), production service rate (29%), inventory turn (28%) and production time (27%).
